Hostgator used to give a small discount on its hosting accounts from the beginning, using special coupon codes. After a while they made all coupon codes equal and started offering same discount, irrespective of the code being used. These days hostgator provides a seasonal discount coupon that offers a flat 20% on the first bill amount AND a number of coupon codes that makes the first months bill amount $0.01, up to a maximum of $9.94.

Currently the 20% off discount is being provided by the coupon code GREEN, introduced as a part of their promotions after going green. Yes, they do use green – renewal energy – purchased as energy credits from third party providers, more than compensating for their electricity usage from the grid.

The other alternate we have is the coupon code that makes the first month amount nearly free ($0.01). Use the code hgc25 for that purpose. This is extremely useful for those who opt for monthly billing as the total amount of discount available in that case is higher compared to 20% of the bill amount.

So to make it clear clear:

• If you have opted for yearly billing or if the first bill amount is $50 or more, use the coupon code GREEN for maximum benefit.
• If you have opted for monthly billing or if the first bill amount isless than $50, use the coupon code hgc25.

How to Use the Coupon Code

It is pretty straight forward. On the order wizard page during checkout, you will be asked to enter the coupon code if any. On the next page, you will be shown the discounted amount after applying the coupon code.
